standard UA information

  • Urine testing tests back approximately 3-5 days for most drugs. Except for THC (marijuana) due to THC being fat soluble.

  • THC has a half-life of 2-10 days (depending on the quantity/quality of THC ingested). This means that it will take between 2-10 days for only half of the THC to leave your system.

  • EXAMPLE: For very thin and active people - the level should drop by 1/2 in approximately 2-days. If the person is heavy set and sedentary it could take approximately 10 days. For an average person, it should take approximately 5 days.

  • The strength of marijuana and frequency of use should be taken into account.

DOT testing:  The underlying purpose of DOT drug testing requirements is to ensure that safety-sensitive employees do not use alcohol or illicit drugs while performing safety-sensitive functions.   DOT testing uses a document called the Federal Drug Testing Control and Custody Form (CCF). The Department of Transportation (DOT), which is an agency of the federal government, creates rules and standards for the drug testing of transportation employees for everyone’s protection.

What CDL Drivers Need to Know

DOT drug tests require laboratory testing (49 CFR Part 40 Subpart F) for the following 5 classes of drugs:

  • Marijuana

  • Cocaine

  • Opiates – opium and codeine derivatives

  • Amphetamines and methamphetamines

  • Phencyclidine – PCP

DONOR of Specimen Sample will need to follow the below procedures:

A valid state or federal photo ID is required (e.g., a driver's license or passport). Faxes or photocopies of identification cannot be accepted. Positive identification by an employer representative (not a co-worker or another employee being tested) is also acceptable.

You (the client) will be asked to remove items from your pockets & clothing (e.g., coveralls, jacket, coat, hat) that could be used to conceal items or substances that could be used to tamper with a specimen. You must leave these garments, as well as any briefcase, purse, or other personal belongings, outside of the restroom in a mutually agreeable location. Failure to comply with directions constitutes a refusal.

You (the client) must empty his or her pockets. Personal items can be placed in a lockbox.

Clients are not to list medications that he or she is currently taking on the CCF. (The client may make notes of medicines on the back of their (employee) copy of the form for convenience, but these notes must not be transmitted to anyone else.)

The specimen must contain at least 45 mL of urine. If it does not, it must be discarded unless another problem (e.g., temperature out of range, signs of tampering) also exists.

Combining urine collected from separate voids is never permitted. Excess urine must be discarded.

The temperature of the specimen must be checked no later than four minutes after the employee gives it to you.

The acceptable temperature range is 32-38 degrees C / 90-100 degrees F.

If the specimen temperature exceeds the acceptable range, you must conduct a new collection using direct observation procedures.
