Drug Testing

Drug Testing

Urine Testing

There are many different panel options to choose from. Click HERE to be taken to the list of panels that show you exactly what drugs are included in each urine test.

Basic Urine

Things to Consider

Urine testing covers approximately a 1-5 day timeframe, showing recent consumption. Drugs can pass through the system quickly, however THC last longer.

If you suspect someone is a chronic user, we recommend hair or nail testing.

Basic Hair

Hair Testing

Hair testing is used for historical habitual usage. Click HERE to be taken to the list of panels that show you exactly what drugs are included in each hair test.

  • Head hair can be segmented in order to view a monthly break down of usage. Instead of receiving one result, with a 1-90 day timeframe, segmented hair testing produces 3 results: 1-30 days, 31-60 days, and 61-90 days

  • Segmentation is used to identify usage trends and can give insight into an usage over time.

Things to Consider

Head hair must be at least 1.5 inches long in order to get the entire timeframe (1-90 days).

If someone does not have head hair, body hair OR nail testing can  be used. Body hair gives a timeframe of approximately 6 moths-up to a year.

Hair testing can be preformed on those with colored/bleached hair. Their form will be marked letting the lab know their hair has been altered.

PLEASE NOTE: It takes 2 weeks for any drug metabolite to enter the hair. If you want a clean hair test, wait at least 115 days from the last known usage before testing.

Basic Nail

Nail Testing

Nail testing is used for historical habitual usage. Click HERE to be taken to the list of panels that show you exactly what drugs are included in each nail test.

PLEASE NOTE: Nails need to be free of any polish/acrylic/gel in order to test.

Things to Consider

Finger nails must be at least 3mm inches long on all 10 fingers in order for a test to be preformed.

Keep in mind, the larger the panel chosen, the longer the nails must be.

Nail testing gives a timeline of approximately 3-6 months.

MRO (Medical review officer)

A MRO can be requested on a urine, hair, or nail test. Their job is to review the donor's prescription information to determine if a positive result was caused by valid prescribed medication. If verified, they are able to amend the test result by turning the positive into a negative.

Things to Consider

An MRO should only be selected if your client takes prescriptions that would cause them to test positive. The MRO will reach out to the donor directly at the phone number they provide to obtain and verify their prescription information. It is important that if you request a MRO, that you make the donor aware they will be contacted after testing (usually the following week).

If the donor fails to contact the MRO, the report will be issued as-is. The donor will then have a week to reach out to the MRO and provide them with their information.

Due to the extra communication channels, adding an MRO can add up to 5 business days to results reporting.

Alcohol Testing

Alcohol Testing

Alcohol testing can be preformed in a variety of matrixes which have different time frames. Use this guide to find the right one for you.

ETOH (alcohol) vs. ETG (alcohol) Testing

Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) provides up to 80 hours detection in urine and up to 3 months in hair and nail samples.

ETOH (Ethanol) has a relatively short window of detection in urine only: about 8-12 hours – primarily used to tell if someone is currently under the influence of alcohol.

ETOH (URINE ONLY)

URINE- 8-12hour detection

  • Only available in a panel

EtG testing

URINE- Can detect as little as one drink in up to an 80-hour window.

  • NO Tolerance Test- any amount found is reported

  • Available as a stand-alone or add-on to a panel

HAIR- Provides a 3 month detection window.

  • Available in segmentation

  • Available as a stand-alone or add-on to a panel

NAIL- Provides a 3 month detection window.

  • Available as a stand-alone or add-on to a panel

ALCOHOL TIMEFRAMES

ALCOHOL.png

PEth testing

Unlike other alcohol testing, PEth testing places an emphasis on levels. The level of alcohol reported can give insight into the drinking habits of the donor.

The PEth levels that can be measured in a blood alcohol test can range from 20 ng/mL to over 210 ng/mL.

  • PEth level < 20 ng/mL would denote abstinence or very low alcohol consumption in the past month.

  • PEth level 20–35 ng/mL would denote low or occasional alcohol consumption in the past month.

  • PEth level 35–210 ng/mL would denote social or moderate alcohol consumption in the past month.

  • PEth level > 210 ng/mL would denote excessive alcohol consumption in the past month.

Things to Consider

The general timeframe for this test is 2-4 weeks. However, in isolated circumstances, chronic alcohol consumption can increase the detection time up to 6 weeks.

If someone tests positive initially, you should wait at minimum 4 weeks before sending them in for re-testing.

Synthetic Marijuana/THC (K2-Spice) URINE

Synthetic cannabinoids “marijuana” are human-made mind-altering chemicals that are either sprayed on dried, shredded plant material so they can be smoked or sold as liquids to be vaporized and inhaled in e-cigarettes and other devices. These products are also known as herbal or liquid incense.

These chemicals are called cannabinoids because they are like chemicals found in marijuana plants. Because of this similarity, synthetic cannabinoids are sometimes misleadingly called synthetic marijuana (or fake weed), and they are often marketed as safe, legal alternatives to that drug. In fact, they are not safe and may affect the brain much more powerfully than marijuana; their actual effects can be unpredictable and, in some cases, more dangerous or even life-threatening.

Synthetic cannabinoids are part of a group of drugs called new psychoactive substances (NPS). NPS are unregulated mind-altering substances that have become newly available on the market and are intended to produce the same effects as illegal drugs.
