THC Positives

High levels of THC from chronic usage may take months to come out of the urine. If you need to show someone is not currently using but keep testing positive, they should be tested weekly to create a Creatinine & THC ratio or have Saliva drug screen performed as THC does not last more than a few days in Saliva.

Methamphetamine Positives

Methamphetamine exists as two isomers, D- and L-isomers. D-methamphetamine (Dextro) is active as a central nervous system stimulant and is a DEA Schedule 2 controlled drug. It is commonly called “Meth” or “Speed”. The other isomer L-methamphetamine (Levo) is the active ingredient in some over-the-counter medications.

Federal drug testing policies have determined that specimens containing 20% or more D-Methamphetamine are consistent with exposure to illicit or prescription D-methamphetamine.

Standard GCMS confirmations do not distinguish between these two forms of methamphetamine so we offer a D/L methamphetamine isomer test that provides specific information regarding the percentage of D-Methamphetamine and L-methamphetamine in the specimen by separating and measuring both the D and L versions of methamphetamine.

This information is listed on the URINE test result (it is an additional test request for Hair or Nail).

This is helpful when you need to have a better understanding of whether a donor was using licit or illicit methamphetamine.

Examples of Medications that contain methamphetamine are Desoxyn and Methedrine.

Medications that metabolize to methamphetamine are Benzphetamine, Dimethylamphetamine, Famprofazone, Fencamine, Furfenorex, and Selegiline.

Amphetamine Positives Only (No Meth)

The donor should present a letter from their pharmacist or prescribing doctor if they take Amphetamines.

Amphetamines are stimulants that speed up the body's system. Some are legally prescribed and used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obesity and narcolepsy.

Common prescription amphetamines include amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (Adderall®), dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine®), lisdexamphetamine (Vyvanse™) and methamphetamine (Desoxyn®).

If needed an MRO can be requested.

EtG Positives

ETG Results:

A "high" positive (e.g., > 1,000 ng/mL) may indicate:

Heavy drinking on the same day or previously (e.g., previous day or two)
Light drinking the same day

A "low" positive (e.g., 500–1,000 ng/mL) may indicate:

Previous heavy drinking (previous 1–3 days)
Recent light drinking (e.g., past 24 hours)
Recent intense "extraneous" exposure (within 24 hours or less)

A "very low" positive (100–500 ng/mL) may indicate:

Previous heavy drinking (1–3 days)
Previous light drinking (12–36 hours)
Recent "extraneous" exposure

Opiates Positives

Heroin is rapidly metabolized by sequential deacetylation of two separate ester bonds to yield 6-monoacetylmorphine and morphine. Hydrolysis of heroin to 6-monoacetylmorphine is catalyzed by pseudocholinesterase.

Upon intravenous administration, heroin is rapidly converted to its first hydrolytic metabolite, 6-monoacetylmorphine (6-MAM), which is further hydrolyzed (deacetylated) to the major active metabolite, morphine.

Dilute Samples

A "Dilute" result means your urine sample has a higher-than-normal water content, making it difficult for the laboratory to accurately detect the presence of drugs.

Essentially, the sample is too "watered down" for the lab to consider the results reliable.

Creatinine: This is a waste product from muscle metabolism that should be present in all human urine. If your level is less than 20 mg/dL, it’s a red flag.

Specific Gravity: This measures the density of the urine compared to water. A result below 1.003 indicates the urine is nearly as thin as plain water.

Results will be reported 1 of 2 ways:

Negative Dilute: No drugs were found, but because the sample was so thin, the lab cannot 100% guarantee there weren't trace amounts of drugs hidden by the water

Positive Dilute: This means that even though your urine was heavily watered down, the lab still found enough drugs to trigger a positive result. This is treated exactly like a regular "Positive" test.

A dilute specimen is a sample that has more water in it than expected but is still within ranges the body can reach with normal hydration.

If possible - Immediate Recollection of a New sample is advised.

Donors should drink up to 16 ounces of water 1-hour prior to sample collection to avoid diluted samples.

PETH:

PEth level < 20 ng/mL denotes abstinence or very low alcohol consumption in the past month.
PEth level ~ 20–35 ng/mL denotes low or occasional alcohol consumption in the past month.
PEth level ~ 35–210 ng/mL denotes social or moderate/significant alcohol consumption in the past month.
PEth level > 210 ng/mL denotes excessive alcohol consumption in the past month.

PEth level > 500 ng/mL is listed as the Upper limit of quantitation by the laboratory.

Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) is a mid-to-long-term alcohol biomarker created in red blood cells, where it exists as part of the cell membrane. We offer PEth testing in dried blood spots and whole blood (venipuncture). PEth may be detected in blood for approximately 2 - 4 weeks. However, there may be isolated circumstances where PEth may be detected at 6 weeks or more.
